SHE CARIBBEAN Magazine

April 2009 Cover

April 2009 Cover

I stumbles across SHE CARIBBEAN Magazine after becoming captivated by local Fashion Designer The Cotrice Collection.

I was introduced to The Cotrice Collection at this years Natural Hair and Beauty Show that took place this past week end. The clothing is PHENOMENAL! (See below for pictures)

SHE CARIBBEAN Magazine was created by Mae Wayne of St-Lucia and is a tribute to the modern Caribbean woman, wherever she may reside.

The magazine started in an interesting manner, as a Newspaper!

Mae Wayne created a Magazine to get more advertising dollars and SHE was born. Early editions were given away to grocery shoppers who spent over a certain dollar amount. SHE later morphed into SHE CARIBBEAN and as they say, “The rest is history!”

The magazine is put out 4 times a year and is offered in the Caribbean, the United States and Europe.

I was luck enough to catch model Tracy V. Pierre after the show. Check out the pictures I snapped of the beautiful summer dress at the Hair Show and go to www.myspace.com/cotrice or www.thecotricecollection.com for more on this H-A-U-T-E Designer.

Natural Hair Show a… SUCCESS!

I attended the Natural Hair Show today and in my opinion it was a success!  The concept is great!

For your $15 dollar admission you could frequent some of the greatest vendors in the Natural Hair industry, often at a discounted price. You got to observe many natural hair stylist at work on raised stages and get tips on what products work better on your texture. Miss Jessie’s had a queuefor one on one consultations with the creators or one of the many stylist on hand. This was great because you found out exactly what products were best for your hair type, (like a try before you buy).

The event had a poetry corner that provided spoken word and music, both instrumental as well as conscious Hip Hop and R&B. The main stage also had entertainment and a 7pm Fashion Show with the most entertaining Master of Ceramony I have ever had the pleasure of observing. The clothing was original and kept people in their seats (and standing) for well over the scheduled close. I left at 9:30 and intend to tell everyone I know about next years  event.

It’s scheduled for April 10th and 11th, 2010. I intend to be there, you should too!

Mavado in April 2009 Vibe Magazine

Rob Kenner wrote an in depth 6 page article on Reggae Artist Mavado called Mavado: The Real McKoy. The article addresses a lot of Mavado’s history in Jamaica’s reggae industry and his rise to world stardom, the gun charges, the conflict with Vybz Kartel and more.

The article is in this months copy of Vibe Magazine. You can listen to Rob Kenner’s “Boomshots” podcast  or read the online version of the article here: http://www.vibe.com/news/online_exclusives/2009/03/mavado_the_real_mckoy/index.html

World Natural Hair Show in Atlanta This Week End

The World Natural Hair Health and Beauty Show is happening this week-end at The Americas Mart Building Two, 240 Peachtree Street N.W, Atlanta GA. That means taking MARTA may be smarter indeed. Tickets are $15 dollars per day and can be purchased from their website (see below).

If you are planning to attend you can expect Competitions, Workshops and Entertainment like Music and Poetry. There will be many vendors on hand displaying their products and opportunities for stylist and the general public to get information on Natural Hair Care. Natural hair care is a rapidly growning industry as more people become fed up with chemical processes and more look to a more healthy approach to hair care.

If you are Rocking natural Hair, are in transition (like me) or want more information before taking the plunge, this is the place to be!

April 1st “April Fool’s Day” – Allen Stanford of Antigua

people-seeking-to-withdra-001

Allen Stanford is no April Fool’s joke. He and his company is the cause of Antiguans looking foolish (or wise, you decide) as they hurriedly withdrew their funds from the The Bank of Antigua a bank that Allen Standford controls. The Texas billionaire was charged with an $8 Billion fraud. People lined up for hours to get their money out even though the six nation Eastern Caribbean Central Bank advised. “DO NOT PANIC.”

It seems The Securities and Exchange Commission accused Stanford, a 58 year old tycoon and avide Cricket supported (see my prior post here http://ingao.com/2008/06/29/west-indian-cricketers-us1-million-incentive/ , of opperating an $8 Billion fraud involving CD’s (Certificates of Deposits)

Can I tell you I knew there was something ‘dirty’ about that man. Read my previous post and you will see my prediction. The fraud is attached to THREE of his companies, Stanford International Bank being one. Let’s face it, would you have any confidence in anything else his name is attached to right now?

All of Standford’s assets have been frozen. What does that mean for Antigua? Well, it could be “catastrophic” is what Baldwin Spencer, Antigua’s Prime Minister is saying. Standford held dual citizen ship with the United States and Antigua for over 20 years. He owns the counties largest News Paper and heads a local commercial bank. He is also the biggest private employer  and is the first American to receive a knighthood from it’s government. Standford has homes throughout the region from Antigua, St. Croix to Miami.
